That is dependent on the kind of Reiki that was performed. It also depends on the client’s comfort level and the practitioner’s, as well as the laws regarding touch and the requirements for licensure and certification in the area where the practice is conducted.
If it does involve touch, the only contact that is made is the simple placement of the hands on the areas of the body corresponding to the chakras, except for the root chakra (in this instance, hands are placed at the hips). To avoid accidentally touching their client’s breasts while working on the heart chakra, some practitioners who rely on touch will avoid touching a female client entirely while performing this procedure.
Fortunately, the practice of Reiki does not involve the use of touch because, if it did, a practitioner would be required to have a massage license, which is the standard requirement for the practice of any modality that involves the use of touch on clients (or other types of licenses – a chiropractor or a medical doctor, etc.). Reiki practitioners, on the other hand, do not need to contact clients physically and can even practice their art at a distance. However, a masseuse, an acupuncturist, or a chiropractor can also use Reiki in their sessions in combination with their respective modalities. In these circumstances, Reiki would be used as an addition to massage or any other “hands-on” session.
Difference between Healing Touch and Reiki
Alternative therapies such as Healing Touch and Reiki are comparable; however, there are significant distinctions between the two. Both of these practices belong to the alternative medicine branch known as energy medicine. Through healing modalities such as Healing Touch and Reiki, blocked energies can be freed up and released, facilitating the healing of various common illnesses and conditions. Both of these practices are based on the idea that the practitioner can transfer vital life energy into the patient to jumpstart the healing process. Many believe these practices will encourage the body to heal naturally without additional medical intervention. No clinical studies have proven these claims; however, many patients swear by Reiki and Healing Touch’s results.
What is Healing Touch?
In contrast to Reiki, Healing Touch does not necessitate any sort of initiation before it can be practiced. It is a technique invented by Janet Mentgen, a registered nurse, and it was initially intended for people in the medical industry. On the other hand, anybody can participate now. It is an energy modality, like Reiki. There are a few different tiers. Level I is based on at least 15 hours of instruction. It allows people from various backgrounds to come in, recognize what they have already learned, and continue developing energy therapy concepts and skills. In addition, you need to have a solid commitment to your personal development and knowledge of the fundamentals of holistic health. There is no required waiting period between these levels, and they are each capable of teaching in just one weekend.
In healing touch, also known as therapeutic touch, it is essential to understand the 12 chakras and meridians and learn therapeutic skills that can be put into practice to open up blocked energies. It involves the practitioner moving their hands slowly and gently over the recipient’s body. Healing Touch has various techniques available to treat various conditions, including back issues. To encourage the body’s natural capacity for self-healing, Healing Touch is a technique that manipulates the body’s energy system.
What is Reiki?
To enhance the body’s innate capacity for healing, reiki practitioners direct the flow of the universal life energy known as qi through their hands and into the patient’s body, mind, and spirit. In 1922, a Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui came up with the idea. Before he passed away, he had more than two thousand students he had instructed in the method. Like Healing Touch, Reiki training can typically be completed on a single weekend. However, despite many organizations providing practitioners with certificates, there is no formal regulation of the courses they take.
Before they can work on other people, Reiki practitioners must first align themselves. It will be difficult for practitioners to heal themselves if their qi is obstructed. In Reiki, the movements are performed in a manner that is analogous to that of Healing Touch; however, they are carried out close to the body rather than directly on it. People uncomfortable with being touched may find that this aspect of the Reiki practice makes it easier for them to participate.
Is Reiki or Healing Touch for you?
While many practitioners and patients swear by the healing effects of Reiki and Healing Touch, clinical research does not support these findings. Therefore, they are not recommended as the sole treatment for all medical conditions.
